Urinary Indican Test
The Urinary Indican Test is an accurate, simple and inexpensive screening tool, allowing identification of the putrefaction of protein in the gastrointestinal tract. A positive test reflects a state of intestinal bacterial dysbiosis.
Adverse microbial pathogens may be caused by and associated with:
- Maldigestion of protein
- Bloating, gas, flatulence
- Intestinal overgrowth of bad bacteria
- Intestinal mucosal damage (due to infection, toxic or reactive exposure or nutritional deficiency)
- Hypochlorhydria
- Coeliac’s disease
- Gastric ulcers
- Pancreatic insufficiency
- Inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis
- Biliary & intestinal obstruction (gall stones & constipation)

- High stress lifestyle, high sugar diet, high caffeine consumption, over eating, eating on the run, high alcohol intake and smoking

- Imbalances in musculoskeletal, neurological, reproductive, urinary, and cardiovascular systems as well as skin.
Patient Preparation
- Collect your first urine specimen of the morning in the specimen container.
- Urine sample should be refrigerated until arrival at consultation.
- A meal with some protein should be eaten the night before the sample is taken as this helps the accuracy of the test.
- Avoid alcohol 24 hrs before taking urine sample.
- Kelp & other supplements high in iodine should be avoided for 24 hours before taking urine sample.
- Appointments need to be made for this test.
- Testing and review of results takes approximately 15 mins.
