On WIN NEWS! – check me out here
On the 18th May, the good citizens of the Narromine Shire (Trangie, Tomingley and Narromine), launched The Magnificent 10+ 10 to raise funds for the CareWest Lodge which is being built on the grounds of the new Orange hospital. CareWest Lodge will provide simple accommodation in a mutually supportive environment for patients and carers from all over Western NSW receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment in Orange, and who due to distance are unable to return home between treatments.
Currently cancer patients have to travel all the way to Sydney because up until this point treatment has not been available this side of the Blue Mountains. Patients stay there for the duration of their treatment (up to eight weeks) at huge expense, fending for themselves. At the most vulnerable and scary time they are isolated from their family and friends and a very long way from home. The people who will benefit the most from the CareWest Lodge project are those in the towns 100km or more from the Radiotherapy Unit in Orange who cannot return home each day after each treatment dose. This is the case for people from Narromine, Trangie, Tomingley and surrounding areas. The CareWest Lodge accommodation will be a “home away from home” for patients and their carer’s. Given most families are touched by cancer in one way or another we are passionate about this project for the entire Western region of NSW.
This is where I come in…
The Narromine Shire Magnificent 10+ 10 (well 11 actually) are well liked, local high profile men and women who have agreed to each lose 10kg, with my help over a 3 months period (100kg) commencing 18th May until mid August. They are asking every business and individual in our region to sponsor our Magnificent 10+ 10 per kg of weight loss.
The Magnificent 10+ 10 committee and helpers will sign up individuals and businesses from Narromine Shire, Dubbo and beyond to underwrite each kg lost. The committee will also seek business naming sponsors.
Narromine News have kindly offered to run a weekly update in the paper and on facebook including a profile on each 10+ 10 participant, food updates and exercise articles, and a tally on the amount of money raised each week. Other media outlets are also keen to follow the project.
The Launch Event on Wednesday 18th May at 6.30pm at the Narromine Aero Club was with myself and Lisa Bullock, Exercise Coach. Before the launch 10+ 10 participants were assessed by me and Lisa and a thorough doctor’s checkup
Each day I add on Facebook food advice, answer questions from The Magnificent 10+ 10

Halfway Mark: The Magnificent 10+ 10 in Narromine – 1st July
I went on my second visit to the Narromine Shire to visit my Magnificent 10. They have lost a total of 80 kilos and it has only be 6 weeks with my simple whole foods eating & lifestyle advise & the help of Lisa Bullock , a local physiotherapist & exercise coach & the wonderful organizers/creators Meg & Judy. I am so proud of them.
I spoke at Trangie Bowling Club & at the Narromine USMC on revising nutritional goals (from my last visit), using healthy fats as fuel to heal, repair & stay lean & energized, addressing the weight plateau & staying inspired.
Not just fat loss but amazing health! The Magnificents are an inspiration. One mentioned he has the lowest blood pressure in 30 years, others are the leanest they have ever been. Some were reluctant to participate for themselves but to raise money but now have seen how amazing they look and feel and want to continue and inspire others. They are a beautiful, fun bunch of people who are doing good for their community in so many ways.
There are now Equivalent Magnificents following their progress and our health & lifestyle recommendations. It’s working for them too. The community as a whole is getting healthier & leaner!!!
At our Halfway Mark we have raised over $50,000!!
Narromine News have kindly offered to run a weekly update in the paper and on facebook including a profile on each 10+ 10 participant, food updates and exercise articles, and a tally on the amount of money raised each week.
In Friday’s Narromine News Newspaper..
Scott MacDougall – A Magnificent!

Half way Mark. Scott is on the far right joined by other Magnificents Rob & Dave. The boys all look slimmer!!
Scott posted these on Facebook after our Halfway Mark.
“I am a very reluctant participant as I have always enjoyed my lifestyle. But given this is for a good cause and it is also about better health I thought you may be interested to know that at the start as well as the mid term weigh ins’ I included a medical check up (in my instance for no other reason than I wanted to know what improvements there were, if any). Well Blood Pressure improvement is significant at start 140/90 mid term 130/80″.
“It was a success last Friday, to put it into perspective for the first time in at least 10 years I was able to weigh myself on a set of bath scales. Most people don’t realise but 90% of bath scales only go to 130kg and my starting wieght was closer to 150kg than 125kg. So imagine my surprise when Meg said she was bringing her scales and wouldn’t need my cattle scales. She was right you know I am now closer to 120kg than 130kg”.
Scott’s dog Jasper has also lost weight.
“Big weigh in and check up Thursday, prior to Anthia arrival and halfway weight loss announcement. My Dog Jasper (Mini Schnauzer) since I started doing the extra walks etc has lost 10% of his body weight and has not even had a change of diet. A sometime friend of mine called Fuzzly thinks that when I take Jasper on a lead and he is pulling me a long, it reminds him of a little Massey Tractor trying to pull a Grizzly plough”.
Scott MacDougall – you are a town legend! Actually a local Trangie resident (who coincidentally happens to be a client of mine separate to my connection to this project) says he is a very liked man and he is so supported and loved about town. So I am right! Keep up the good work & keep inspiring those around you.
MAGNIFICENTS- I THINK YOU ARE ALL AMAZING. YOUR COMMUNITY IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME. FARMING IS A NOBLE PROFESSION!
